TUFF Bags is working to eradicate childhood hunger, as well as provide education, skill building, and community service for at-risk youth in the juvenile justice system. Approximately 3,800 children in Tuscarawas County experience food insecurity, which refers to a lack of regular access to nutritional food.

The food these children receive through TUFF Bags not only nourishes their bodies, but helps them reach their full academic and social potential by allowing them to leave school on Friday without the worry of going hungry until returning to school on Monday.

TUFF Bags is currently serving approximately 1,900 children in six school districts in Tuscarawas County: Indian Valley, Newcomerstown, Dover, Claymont, Tusky Valley, and Tuscarawas Central Catholic, as well as STAR Alternative School, Quaker Digital Academy, four HARCATUS Pre-school Learning Centers, Buckeye Career Center and Strasburg Area Homeschool Co-Op.

100% of every donation is used to help provide weekend meals for food insecure children in our community.

TUFF Bags Salutes our

Volunteer of the month

Honorable  Edward O'Farrell and Mary O'Farrell

November 2025 Volunteers of the Month

TUFF Bags Volunteers of the Month for November are the Honorable Edward O'Farrell and Mrs. Mary O'Farrell!
* Judge O'Farrell and Mary have been volunteering with us for 3 years.
* As a National Honor Society advisor at Garaway High School, Mary was looking for a service project for members that would make a direct, positive impact on the lives of others. She says each year her seniors leave TUFF Bags with a greater sense of community and purpose and have such fun packing and tying bags of food. (The couple also regularly volunteer without the students ❤️
* They say that working together with other volunteers and realizing how many kind and generous people live in our community, and knowing that children benefit greatly by our efforts, are their favorite parts of volunteering with us.
* The O'Farrells believe that it's important to be involved in the community because volunteering provides a sense of accomplishment and pride, and offers the opportunity to meet new people from different backgrounds.
* Their encouragement to anyone who hasn't volunteered with TUFF Bags is how gratifying it is to turn outward from your focus on yourself to the rewards of focusing on others, and that it is a fast paced, fun service project.
Thank you Judge O'Farrell and Mary, for giving your time, support and love to TUFF Bags. We appreciate you!
